Part 7: Go and Hide Yourself — Trusting God With the Unknown

What if God is telling you to hide yourself for a season—still in preparation, still in waiting?

When Elijah declared there would be a drought and said there would not be dew nor rain except according to his word, God told Elijah:

“Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith…“ (1 Kings 17:3, KJV)

In these Scriptures, we can see that God had a plan for Elijah’s life. Elijah went through a hidden season that later led him into his public ministry.

He learned to depend on God for provision through the miracle of the ravens bringing him bread and meat in the morning and evening while he drank from the brook. But after a while, the brook dried up.

Have you ever had a brook dry up in your own life?

It could be a job.

Maybe it was a relationship.

Maybe it was a dream you thought would last forever.

Perhaps you are in that season right now.

Just because the brook dried up did not mean God had abandoned Elijah. It meant God was preparing to lead him somewhere else.

The brook drying up was a sign that one season had come to an end and another was about to begin. God directed Elijah to the widow.

Sometimes the brook may dry up in a place that seems so familiar, and we have to move on because God is moving us to where He wants us to be.

Is there a place in your life that God may be asking you to move from?

Could it be that what feels like an ending is actually God preparing you for your next assignment?

Elijah was going to the right place. Not only did God provide for Elijah, but He also blessed the widow because of her obedience in listening to Elijah and made him a little cake first.

In 1 Kings 17:14-16, it says:

“For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.”

She was blessed beyond measure.

Trusting God with the unknown meant the widow had to believe before she saw the outcome.

Have you ever had to trust God before you could see what He was doing?

Have you ever had to obey Him before you knew how everything would work out?

She experienced not only one miracle, but two miracles in her house. Later, when her son died, Elijah cried out to God, and God restored life to the boy’s body.

As followers of Jesus, we must always seek to be in God’s will and fulfill the calling He has placed on our lives.

He is calling us for something bigger, but if we stay in a season we were meant to move from, we could miss what He is calling us into.

Elijah had to move forward for God’s plan to continue. God had a purpose in sending him to the widow. Through that miracle, others could see the power of God.

Remember, He desires to draw people unto Himself.

Sometimes the next season is about moving spiritually into a deeper relationship with God. He is not calling us to remain stagnant, but to seek His purpose and will for our lives.

Life is not always easy. You may think you have it all, but we do not truly have everything until we have Him—not just knowing about Him, but having a revelation of who He is and a desire to draw closer to Him.

Like a desperate cry for more of Him, when we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. His Holy Spirit lives within us so that, in the end, our lives will point others back to Him.

God is calling us deeper—not just for ourselves, but so He can work through us, that others may see and glorify our Father in heaven.

Jesus said:

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” (John 14:12, KJV)

The hidden season, the waiting season, and even the unknown season may be preparing us for something we cannot yet see.

Just as with Elijah, the brook drying up did not mean God had forgotten him. It meant God was moving him.

Through every closed door, every question, every tear, and every waiting season, I am learning to trust Him deeper.

Because when God is leading, even the unknown is in His hands.
